LCS is considering the notion of eliminating 5 hardwired 300-baud modems currently attached to MC. The modems are Bell 113B's, connected to MC ttys 3,4,5,6 and 7 at phone numbers 253-????, 7985, 7956, 7987 and 7988 respectively. If you have a truly compelling reason for keeping these dialups in service, please contact Bede McCall immediately -- demolition is scheduled to happen in about two weeks. Plans call for converting these former 300-baud lines to 9600-baud lines for connection to the ROLM CBX. Not that this does NOT imply that 300-baud users will not be able to access MC via dialups. At some point in the near future, we will probably purchase one or two 300-baud modems for connection to the ROLM CBX. Both MC and XX have at least one 300-baud port each at present, and this situation is very unlikely to change. Additionally, MC currently has eight "triple-threat" Vadic model VA3467 modems which will remain in place: assuming that MC can detect baud rates ("autobaud"), 300-baud dial-in users can reach the machine through these modems as well (they support 1200-baud Vadic and Bell 212A, plus the 300-baud Bell 103 protocols).
