This note 1983.September.28-29... amended Saturday, 2 November 1985-MAP For a discussion of file naming conventions in this directory see the file ".FILE. NAMES". The PCNET directory is currently for: (1) depository of software documentation and other information relating to the PCNET project, originally started in 1977 by Dave Caulkins. To avoid clobbering an existing file by the same name, use ">" as the second file name, or MAIL your contributions to REM who will carefully install them here. (2) place where REM and MAP are maintaining the tree-structured database of PCNET information, including notes for the online workshop and recent changes and additions to the protocols. If you want this information, run the INFO program by saying :INFO PCNET , or send MAIL to REM asking for the toplevel PCNET INFO node. (3) account where remote PCNET people can run a test node, for manual testing of their understanding of the protocols, and for semi-automatic testing of their PCNET software on their personal computers against the working software here. Contact REM for password and how to use the program, after first convincing REM you are seriously working on PCNET software and thus need the access information. (4) depository of various implementations, partial implementations, and other useful code. The code is mostly stored in the archive files, read ARCHIV NOTES for information on accessing them.
