Set up the board as shown on the starmap.Mark the damage control charts at random and place theplaying pieces on the appropriately marked hexagons. The Argonian player starts the game and play movesclockwise around the board. Each players turn consists of four distinct parts. (1) The Vortron counter is moved one space towardsthe Argonian stargate. If the counter arrives atthe stargate then all players lose the game. (2) Planetary search. The player throws both dice and if either shows oneof the two orbital numbers adjacent to his PlanetarySearch Group then the group lands and becomesinvulnerable to attack. After landing planetary search is missed out of theplayers move until the next mineral is to be collected. (3) The Battlestar is moved. One or two dice are thrown according to whether theslow or fast game was chosen and the total shown bythe dice is added up.The Battlestar must move thisnumber of hexagons unless to do so it would have toapproach any spacecraft to closer than one hexagon.A Battlestar moves in a straight line but may chooseto change direction once during its move,if it does sothe battlestar must not retrace its steps and mustenter and leave the docking bay keeping within themarked lines. (4) Hazard and challenge action. After the battlestar has moved the numbers visiblethrough the windows are totalled and reference is madeto the appropriate Hazard and Challenge card.* Hazard:-If a hazard is encountered the appropriate number ofhazard throws must be taken.A hazard throw consists ofrolling both dice to detemine which section of yourDamage Chart has been hit.The number on the blue diceindicates the section and the red the level.(see diagram in rule book)The throw destroys any equipment on that position.* Challenge:-If a challenge is encountered the player must launchone or both of his challenge and intercept groups. He may choose to attack a vortron,a hostile planetarysearch group or a hostile battlestar but note thatbattlestars may not be attacked when docked and thatplanetary search groups may not be attacked whilelanded on mineral gathering expeditions.A challenge is taken in three parts...... a). The player finds one or two hexagons adjacent tothe chosen target which add up to the challenge number. These hexagons now denote the sections under attack. The challenge and intercept groups are then taken fromtheir sites on the damage chart and placed beside thetarget hexagons. b). The defender may then attempt as many defenceor evasion throws as he is allowed according to thechallenge card.An evasion throw consists of throwing both dice.Ifeither shows one of the two sections under attack thenthe attack ends and the defender sustains no damage.A defence throw consists of throwing as many dice asyou have operational lasers. If a dice shows one of thesections under attack then that attack is driven off. c). Any attacks not evaded or succesfully defendedagaist are succesful. If the target is a planetarysearch group it is destroyed and the damage chartmarked appropriately. If the target is a battlestar the player examinesthe challenge card to note which challenge group isbeing used.Phaser armed frigates score three hits, torpedo armed frigates score two hits and laser armedinterceptors score one hit. Each hit is scored by rolling the red dice;the valueshown on the dice shows which level was hit.At the end of the turn the challenge and interceptgoups are returned to their positions on the damagechart. The Damage Charts. A hit on the damage chart destroys any equipmentpresent at that position.Absent planetary searchgroups cannot return to the chart until the 'P' hasbeen replaced (at the cost of a move). No player may miss two consecutive moves in order torepair damaged areas. If both engines are destroyed the player mustimmediately repair one engine. When both lasers are destroyed no defence throws areavailable. Attacking the Vortrons during a challenge. The Vortron counter can be delayed by attacking the twoVortrons stationed in the hostile planetary system.Vortron ships have no defence or evasion throws andcannot move. For every hit on the vortrons inside thehostile system the vortron counter is moved backtwo spaces. Transporting Mineral Ores. A mineral ore cannot be transferred to a battlestaruntil its planetary search group has landed on an Mplanet with one exception, that being challenge cardeleven. But only one free mineral per player per game. When any single part of the battlestar comes withinone hexagon of its own landed planetary search groupthe battlestar stops, the appropriate callenge or hazardaction is taken and the player returns his planetarysearch group to the damage chart. He then places the appropriate mineral ore in eitherof the search windows. One mineral is the maximum loadof any battlestar and the mineral must not be of thesame type as the battlestar. The following turn the battlestar may begin its journeyWhile the battlestar carries a mineral ore only onesearch window is read to decide which challenge orhazard is to occur. When the battlestar berths exactly at the stargate thebattlestar stops and the mineral ore is placed in theAdvanced Beam Weapon.A planetary search group is now launched to anotherplanetary sytem. Section 2:-Attacking Darl. When the Advanced weapon is completed the player mayattack Darl using one of two methods. 1) Each turn the player may throw two dice.If eitherdice is a six the player wins. 2) Each turn the player may select MENU option 3in which Darl is defeated by aiming the sights of theAdvanced Beam Weapon directly at his weak point. When on target the weapon will fire automatically andDarl will meet his rightful end.If however you do not destroy Darl in the allotted timehe will turn bright yellow and celebrate his continuedsurvival. 1984 Duncan Games,All rights reserved. l3 f`y]h!@@666!
