FEBRUARY 14TH, 1994 11:25 PM (APPROX) 24575_ "":"" 54648x demolitn 0d6`=f6 * DEMOLITION * .... Written by Jonathan Cauldwell January 1994 .... Bash your way through 32 different levels armed only with a bat and ball. Bricks score 100 points each. Collect power-up canisters for 50 points and one of four effects: large bat, sticky bat, split ball into 3 and slow down .... Extra lives are awarded every 10,000 points .... There is a cheat mode too (though I'm not telling you what it is!) .... If you like this game, why not buy my Bumper Boogie Pack, (as seen in the last ever Your Sinclair) for just `4.99? There are 10 great games featured on one tape - which can easily be backed up to disc if required. Interested? If so, have a pen and paper ready and I'll give you my address in a minute... You can also write to me if you want although I can't promise to reply as I get hardly any spare time nowadays. I've been a full-time Analyst Programmer for the past year and I often end up working very long hours. Right, my address: Get your pen ready... It's: Jonathan Cauldwell, 5 Helmsley Drive, Eastwood, Notts NG16 3RS. As usual, send cheques or postal orders as it's a bit risky sending dosh through the post. A spanking new tape should appear on your doormat within 28 days... Okay, that's got the sales pitch out of the way, let's get on with the greetings list. A very big HELLO/THANK YOU/SLOBBERY WET KISSES (delete as appropriate) go to the following people and organisations... Aidan Herrett + Robert Redfern + Ian Justice + Jolene Whalley + Arron Hopcroft + Matthew Brooks + Mr T L Boys + Chic Computer Club + Andrey Remic + Hugh Binns + Everyone at Microlise + Alex Carswell (I'll get around to replying to you soon, I promise...) + Vaughan Hallam + SharonStone (Well, I can dream can't I?) + Martin B. (Sorry about your letterbox (Snigger!)) + And anyone else I may have forgotten .... Okay, what shall I talk about now? Although you've probably only been reading this scrolling message for a few minutes it has taken me about an hour to type in what you've seen so far and I'm still only one quarter of the way through my allocated text quota! Hmmm, I think I'll go and pour myself a cup of tea..... Slurp! Lovely! Actualy, as I type I'm flicking through a holiday brochure trying to find a suitable venue for a holiday with my friends. Five of us spent a week in a caravan in Skegness last year; we even managed to remain sober most of the time! This year everybody seems to fancy the idea of going to Blackpool. However, it's awfully difficult finding a caravan to rent, especially for an all-male party between the ages of 17-22... And somehow I can't see a bed and breakfast owner putting up with such a party returning at 3am after a night out... Oh well - I'm sure we'll sort something out... As you can imagine, I'm a bit stuck for things to say now. I could go on about how sad it was when Your Sinclair closed down - but I'd only end up getting all blubby and you wouldn't want that, would you? Besides, Sir Clive's wondrous machine will never die while there are still a few of us holding out. As long as I can sell a few dozen copies of each game I write, there's no reason for me to stop programming the things. Heaven knows why I'm still doing it even now. I hardly make any money from it anymore... I guess I'm just hooked. I've had so much enjoyment from the Spectrum over the past 10 years that I'm glad to be able to put something back in. I hope that the games I write give as much pleasure to others as I got from playing other peoples games when, aged 13, I bought my first Spectrum back in late July 1984. How the memories come flooding back... I still remember the first game I ever loaded. It was Zzoom, written by John Gibson and published by Imagine (who went bust just weeks later). Then there was Hungry Horace by William Tang, Dictator by Don Priestly and many more. Crikey, I must sound like an old timer - I'm only 22! But I'm sure you don't mind a bit of Speccy nostalgia; I'd love to hear from anyone with similar tales to tell.... Amongst my favourite games were... Match Day II, Knight Lore, Sabre Wulf, Zzoom, Underwurlde, Starquake, Pheenix, Skool Daze, Back to Skool, Bugaboo the Flea, Fred, Worse Things Happen At Sea, Chuckie Egg, Booty, Green Beret, Stop The Express, 3D Deathchase, Viking Raiders, Commando, Star Raiders II, Highway Encounter, Xeno, Formula One, Lords of Time, The Sea Spray Incident, Chaos, Renegade, Target Renegade, Manic Miner, Trashman, Death Wish 3, Jetset Willy, Gunfright, Football Manager, Cavelon, Spy Vs Spy, Valhalla, Stonkers, Panzadrome, Battlecars, 3D Tanx, ATV Simulator, Pro Skateboard Simulator, Sir Lancelot, Fast food, Wheelie and my all-time favourite game on any computer: Halls Of The Things. Whew! Quite a list, eh? I'm sure you won't agree with all the games on my list - maybe I've missed out some of your favourites. But surely the point is that the Spectrum, with more games than any other computer or console in the world, (between ten and twenty thousand at the last count), still has (in my opinion at least) the best games. Hundreds and hundreds of stonking titles which can be picked up for next-to-nothing from computer shows and car boot sales. No console can match that. Sure, I've played Sonic, Desert Strike, the Mario games and many others - but aside from one, maybe two enhancements - parallax scrolling (which could be achieved on a Spectrum by any good programmer) and pretty graphics there's nothing in any of these games that hasn't already been done on our machine. And at forty quid a throw, I ask you..... It's no wonder they can afford Rik Mayall to advertise their products! May I suggest that in future we all append an extra letter "L" whenever we mention the word "MEGADRIVE"...? My advice? Not that it's worth much, but I'd stick to our rubber-keyed friend. If you do decide to buy a second machine, (if only to play on while you wait for your Spectrum games to load from tape!) get an Amiga - or at least a computer - steer clear of consoles! Actually, I've probably just shot myself in the foot there! You see, it looks very likely that I'll be programming either Gameboy(Z80) or Megadrive(68000) games for a living soon. And if that doesn't persuade you to keep away from the consoles nothing will! Well, here I sit. Squinting at a screen of text, hammering away dementedly at a computer keyboard, thinking just how nice it would be to be somewhere else at the moment. It's now approximately 10:30pm on Tuesday 18th January 1994 and I'm just dying for a game on one of my old Speccy games! I've drunk my way through six mugs of tea since I started typing out this scrolling text and I'm now becoming very bored. I bet you are too! Why on earth don't you press a key to start the game, instead of reading this drivel? Surely the game isn't that bad - is it??? .... Ah well, I'd better start winding things up now; I'm very tired and want to go to bed! I've also nearly come to the end of my text buffer, there's only enough room left for a few more lines of text. So may I take this opportunity to thank everyone reading this message for their continued support, thanks for buying this game in the first place, I hope you like it. If you fancy writing your own games, you may be interested to learn that I also sell a BASIC compiler called Turbo 2, which produces stand-alone code with no copyright restrictions on a subset of BASIC. The price: `5, but as I'm in a generous mood I'll let anyone who is reading this message have it for four quid. Okay, I really must go now. Good luck, and may the force be with you..... (or something like that anyway.) T.T.F.N. ----> Go on, play the game . . .
