Stevie Dotman ------------- By Matthew Westcott (Gasman of Raww Arse) The Game -------- Inspired by the Lunar Lander / Thrust genre of games, the game involves navigating Stevie (a particularly charismatic string of dots) around each cavern, into the exit square. Along the way, there's diamonds to collect, and fuel to top up your rapidly decreasing supply. For the full instructions, see the Readme program in dotman.tap. This 'package' contains: ------------------------ readme.txt: The full schematics of the Sinclair Loki. Honest. dotman.tap The Stevie Dotman designer program (v2.0). dotlev.tap The levels for the game, 50 in total. The levels are in no particular order. Some are easy, some are hard, some may well be impossible, and at least one is downright unfinished. In fact, there's not really any structure to the game at all. Want to know why? Read on... About the program ----------------- The Stevie Dotman project was started in 1996. The partially-successful plan was to release a program for designing levels (that's the one you've got here), so people could send their creations to me, and at some point I would write the full game, containing all the levels. I never did get round to doing a proper *game* version of it, and it's unlikely that I ever will. So, rather than leaving the level files to rot in a disc box, I've decided to release them all. And here it is - the final version of Stevie Dotman. "Hey, how come I never heard about this?" ----------------------------------------- When the designer program was released, there wasn't really much I could do to promote it, other than the occasional mention in the Speccy fanzines. I did mention it to a number of people individually, too, but the response tended to be "sorry, it's not the kind of thing I'm good at." Of course, I knew that there were plenty of people who were good at it, especially considering the number of people who have come up with whole new versions of Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy! It would have been useful to have been on the net at the time, I guess... Nevertheless, the few positive responses were very generous, and it's thanks to these people that you're reading this now. "No problem, I'll do some levels for you!" ------------------------------------------ Well, feel free to create some, and I hope you enjoy doing so, but I won't be making a proper version of the game, even if there's a massive response from this release. Basically, if I ever write a game, it's going to be something bigger and better than this.
